The Club and Our Aim
Founded in 1867, Glasgow University Boat Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious sporting institutions in Scotland. The club continues to compete at the highest levels on a domestic and international level. In 2015/16, the club had one athlete representing GB under 23 and GB Universities with a further 12 athletes representing Scotland. The club aims to maintain its place at the forefront of Scottish and British Rowing while further pushing for more medals in the forthcoming season.
The 2015/16 season saw Glasgow crews having one of their best seasons to date. Our women reached the final at Henley Women’s Regatta, won BUCS gold and beat Edinburgh in the Glasgow vs. Edinburgh Boat Race. While our men reached their first BUCS Championship Final in over 10 years, equalled the club’s best performance at the Head of the River Race in London and won the Scottish Universities Head.
With the Rio Olympics on the horizon, the club expects the ‘Rio Effect’ to ensue. We are predicting our highest intake of students to date in the coming season. That’s more students showcasing and representing your brand on campus and throughout the country as we represent the club at forthcoming regattas.
Rowing has further witnessed mass interest through the broadcasting of Henley Royal Regatta live on BT Sport and YouTube which the club entered two boats in. For the first time, Henley Women’s Regatta live streamed the regatta with overwhelming success. Support and publicity for the Glasgow vs. Edinburgh Boat Race Festival increased dramatically this year as BBC Scotland, BBC Alba, STV and Scottish broadsheets all thoroughly covered the events which unfolded at the Riverside Museum on the Clyde. Rowing is on the rise and now is the perfect opportunity for your company to showcase their brand with a club that is rising through Scottish and British rowing. Showcase your brand on oars, boats, kit, social media, formal events and much more.
