The Club and Our Aim
Founded in 1867, Glasgow University Boat Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious sporting institutions in Scotland. The club continues to compete at the highest levels on a domestic and international level. In recent years, particularly with the appointment of full time staff, Director of Rowing, Andrew Barton, the club has undergone a regeneration. Crews have competed at Henley Women’s Regatta, Henley Royal Regatta and individuals have been selected for Home International Regatta (Scotland Team) and GB U23’s.
The 2016/17 season saw Glasgow crews having one of their best seasons to date. Our Womens’ squad placed 20th at WEHORR, won Bronze in Int8+ and Lwt8+ at BUCS Regatta, as well as an outstanding Gold in the Int2-. Our Men’s squad continues to hold many titles as Scottish University and Scottish Champions as well as produce rowers of the quality to compete at Home International Regatta (Scotland Team).
Sport at the University of Glasgow is on an upward trajectory. The club continues to reach record membership numbers year on year. Spectacles such as The Scottish Boat Race and British University Championships draw in larger and larger crowds. As a business that’s more students showcasing and representing your brand on campus and throughout the country as we represent at a national and international level.
Rowing has further witnessed mass interest through the broadcasting of Henley Royal Regatta live on BT Sport and YouTube which the club entered two boats in. For the first time, Henley Women’s Regatta live streamed the regatta with overwhelming success. Support and publicity for the Glasgow vs. Edinburgh Boat Race Festival increased dramatically this year as BBC Scotland, BBC Alba, STV and Scottish broadsheets all thoroughly covered the events which unfolded at the Riverside Museum on the Clyde.
Our infamous Naked Calendar hit the streets in late November 2016. The calendar was a huge success, placing 2nd in The University Papers’ National Competition. This generated a surge of publicity for our sponsoring partners, Athlete Focused, and our Charity Partner, The Beatson Cancer Charity. Rowing is on the rise and now is the perfect opportunity for your company to showcase their brand with a club that is rising through Scottish and British Sport. Showcase your brand on oars, boats, kit, social media, formal events and much more.
