After the most successful summer season our Men’s Squad has seen in recent years, our boys were delighted to pre-qualify to race at Royal Henley Regatta in the Temple Cup for Academic 8s. In a tough draw, Glasgow faced off against St. Petersburg University in their heat. The boys rowed outstandingly well – producing some of their best rowing of the season – but the Russians proved to be the stronger crew, taking the victory.
As well as the men, Emma McDonald did exceptionally well to qualify to race a composite quad with Wallingford Rowing Club in the Princess Grace Challenge Cup.
The girls raced against Leander Club who had several GB ladies on board including Debbie Flood and Fran Rawlins. Emma and the Wallingford girls got off to a fantastic start and had a canvas lead after the first few minutes, but Leander rowed through them to take the win by 3 and ¾ lengths.
To compete at Henley Royal was a great honour for everybody involved and to be a such a huge event focused on the sport of rowing provided a lot of atmosphere (and Pimms!) to be soaked up and enjoyed by the athletes and other club members who attended to enjoy the long weekend.
